ABC Radio National’s Big Ideas: Can citizen juries put the people back in democracy?

Last month, Citizen Assemblies for South Australia hosted the Policy Without Politics conference. Along with The Better Cities Initiative’s founder Elizabeth Farrelly, who chaired the event, the conference heard from former SA Premier Jay Weatherill, economist Nicholas Gruen and former federal Minister Simon Birmingham.

It was a timely discussion for Big Ideas, who are conducting their own jury experiment. Citizen Jury—presented in collaboration with Dubbo Regional Council and hosted by Natasha Mitchell—will bring together a diverse cross-section of the local community and regional stakeholders to address a critical issue: the implementation of renewable energy infrastructure.
